Geraniol
Geraniol is a monoterpenoid best known for its presence in roses, giving them their distinctive smell. This terpene is also abundant in geranium, lemongrass, and citronella. When isolated, geraniol is a transparent to slightly yellow oil. Geraniol has a very recognizable scent due to its presence in many flowers.

In addition, this terpene is used to give food and drinks a raspberry, blueberry, peach, or plum flavor.Geraniol is also used for repelling insects. In an article published to the Journal of Vector Ecology, researchers found geraniol to be significantly more effective as an insect repellant than citronella and linalool. When geraniol was put into a mosquito trap, it repelled female mosquitos by 75%; while linalool only repelled female mosquitos by 58%.
